Module 3.1 – National Provider Identifier (NPI) & Employer Identification Number (EIN)

The National Provider Identifier number (NPI) is a free, unique identification number for health care providers covered under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). It is required by rendering and billing provider for insurance claims and superbills. If you have a group NPI, you can enter that information under Home > More > Account > Clinical, if you haven’t already. You can also add individual NPIs for each practitioner by navigating to Lists > Claims > Claims Settings > Providers.
The Employer Identification Number (EIN), which is also known as the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), is a free, unique 9-digit identification number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to business entities operating in the United States. It is required by rendering and billing provider for insurance claims and superbills. You will need to enter your EIN under Home > More > Account > Clinical if you have not already.
